The Curriculum
At Hayama International the child is at the center of the educational process and our curriculum is based on this philosophy. Through our standards based curriculum we aim to develop the intellectual, emotional and physical potential of each child. We do this with the understanding that each child learns and develops in his or her own way.
The Hayama International curriculum includes the core subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Art which are taught by the student’s homeroom teacher. Specialists teach Japanese and consult with the homeroom teacher on Music and Physical Education. All students receive Japanese instruction as a first or second language depending on their proficiency.
Children learn deeply when all of their senses are involved in active exploration of a stimulating environment. We emphasize a respect for a variety of learning styles as children engage in experimenting, drawing, writing, modeling, discussing, reading, building and inventing.
It is our desire to bring the curriculum to life in as many ways as we can. Therefore our teachers employ a wide range of teaching techniques and strategies and include activities that are whole class and small group based.
